Anyone care to explain this horn?

I received this picture in an e-mail a few days ago, and all I can say is... "Why?!"

12 Bells, 8 valves.

I actually thought it was a scheme at first to! I've seen them on YouTube and on eBay a few times, but nothing quite like this. Apparently from what I found out, this is actually in the selmer collection in paris. Why on earth would it need 12 bells though???goodgigs wrote:Wow, with that title and you being new on the forum, I figured to see my horn, but instead a photo shopped version of a German scheme horn.
These were horns with usually three or four bells and occasionally seven, but I've never seen twelve. They started out as a fixed reed mouthpiece
type instrument but have bin "upgraded" to trombone (brass) mouthpiece later.
One that I saw was a sousaphone with seven bells in a flower bouquet form from Amati. Really cool looking !
In case you haven't seen my stealth tuba yet :

The real question should be "why not?"TubadudeCA wrote:I received this picture in an e-mail a few days ago, and all I can say is... "Why?!"
