Despite all the nice things I said about the 250 L6 engine in my Facebook post, Wade, after seeing more specific information in this post I will only say this:
$8500 is WAY too much for this truck, even with the equipment and tools. By about 100%. $4500 would be reasonable. $3500 would be a "good price." Check out nadaguides.com.
Another thing to consider is the lack of air conditioning in Mississippi in the summer. I'm not sure I'd be willing to deal with that.
As for power and getting up hills, no worries. The heavy straight sixes actually produce MORE torque than the smaller V8s (305, 327, 350).
