Wait, there's a difference?
Joking aside, all of the mass-produced American crap is crap. Especially now, there are thousands of other American brands that have popped up, most of which are good, and many of which are excellent. Try as many different brands as you can, and pay attention more to the *style* of beer than the brand (IPA, stout, porter, lager, etc...). You'll start to notice what styles you like, and then experiment from there. Buying based only on brand names and bottle labels would be like buying a tuba over the internet...oh...wait...
For me, I prefer German bocks and lagers, and all varieties of ales. I'll try almost anything once, but fruity beer and lambics are not my thing. Also, *really* strong beers (like over 9%) aren't my favorites, though they are good to have around.

Coming in at a distant 23rd place is Guinness...but only ON TAP when I'm in an Irish pub with a little extra $$$.

Well I rememeber a time when the drinking age was 18.
I'm not an alcoholic teen either, but instead of smoking and buying huntring rifles and shot guns, i'd rather sit down in front of a campfire and genuinely enjoy a nice beer.

I'm curious...
Where is it that someone under 21 can remember a time when the drinking age was 18?
As to your second point, there's many other choices besides drinking and smoking/shooting guns. You're not really that stupid.

Utica Club-no groans from my Upstate NY Brethren
Genny-Not "Soylent Creme". I remember when they had the three piece cans. They made GREAT potato cannons
Labatts Blue Light- Yum
Schlitz- The "Old" formula
Matt's- Let's see how many of you remember that brand, much less the popular Beer Balls
Miller- Any of their Lite products, to include my favorite High Life Lite

No particular five to report, but I'm with Bort, it would be a long list before I'd get to any of the great big breweries and their meager brews.
Just guessing at good stuff that might be more widely available ... Lagunitas seems to be on the large side of small-style breweries, and their stuff is always worth a try.
This one is pretty drinkable too -

I don't drink, so my answer would be....
ROOT beer!
Pretty much anything but Barqs Root Beer, or diet root beer (I can't stand diet soda...)

In most states, the drinking age is/was/always will be 21. In a few states, there used to be, or may still be, laws allowing 3.2% by weight beer to be purchased and consumed at 18, with conditions and restrictions.
I'll give a list of 5 favorite NC beers from different breweries:
Old Town Brown-Natty Greene's Brewing Co (Greensboro, NC)
Wee Heavy Scotch Style Ale- The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery (Farmville, NC)
Tripel Overhead- Mother Earth Brewing (Kinston, NC)
Highland Oatmeal Porter- Highland Brewing (Asheville, NC)
Sexual Chocolate- Foothills Brewing Company (Winston-Salem, NC)

I'll put in my two California faves:
Steelhead Stout
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
But I'm also rather fond of
Guiness
Sam Adams
And for sentimental reasons
Stroh's
. . . and just about anything from Germany or England.

Sexual Chocolate... interesting.
I work at a winery/brewery here in the redlands, south FL. While I was throwing some bottles in the recycling bin I saw a beer bottle that said North Carolina Werewolf.
Ever heard of that?
