Summer drinks

Post by Chadtuba »

Anybody have any favorite summer drinks you'd like to share? I picked up some wine frappe mixes this afternoon at the local county fair and mixed up a batch of strawberry when we got home. It is a perfect refresher after a long hot day. I've also got a great recipe for a rum slushy if anybody is interested.

I Shot of Tanqueray Rompour Gin
1 shot Roses Lime Juice

Put these two ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake.

Pour into a pint glass, add more ice and fill with Tonic and add a splash of Bitters.

Enjoy.

For me, replace the tonic and bitters with ginger ale.

Cranberry juice with soda-water and a dash of lemon juice over crushed ice.

On hot days, HOT tea - it starts you sweating, which cools you down better than any drink could.

I'm spoiled. I just got back from a trip to London last month. Besides the usual pint, there are only four true summer drinks: ginger beer, shandy, gin & tonic, and Pimm's & soda.

Mix 1 part Pimm's No.1
with 4 parts club soda.
Add a sliced strawberry and a sprig of mint

Usually in the summer I keep a lot of lemons on hand to make fresh-squeezed lemonade. It's very refreshing, especially if you don't over-sweeten it (ALL commercially available lemonade is too sweet IMO).

For beers, I like Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, Kokanee when I'm visiting friends in the Northwest and Kronenberg 1664 when I can find it.

I love an Arnie when it's too hot for alcohol. 1/2 unsweetened tea and 1/2 lemonade over ice. mmmmmmmmmmmmm

In Baltimore, we call that a "half and half." In fact, it was probably only a few years ago when I first heard it called an Arnold Palmer.

Indeed. After a weekend gig down at Kimberling City, with temperatures in the 100 range for setup and not dropping appreciably until well into the evening, the cold watermelon for breakfast the next morning was most appreciated.
