Bending paddle rod on bass trombone

I buy and sell instruments. I have owned four bass trombones at various points in the last twenty years. Having very large hands, it's never been a problem operating the Gb/ F paddles. However, I recently purchased a bass trombone and am having a hard time reaching the Gb paddle. Can the rod on which the paddle is attached be bent? Or, will the rod snap?

I bent the one on my Besson for the same reason. It has survived 10 years that way.

oh...sorry...

Just in case my answer might be misinterpreted:

No, if successfully bent, that does NOT mean that it will eventually break.

I only meant that if it is bent severely ENOUGH (how far...??) it will eventually break.
Yes, I knew what you meant. That's the way I interpreted your post. Here's hoping I don't use too much force on the rod.
