Oboist collapses

Post by Ace »

William Bennett, principal oboe San Francisco Symphony, collapsed during his performance of Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto. He's one of the nation's great oboists. Well wishes to you, Bill, and to your family. -Ace

According to a reader's comment on the article in the San Francisco Chronicle, he is in a coma, and the prognosis is not good. I have no reliable first-hand information. Best wishes to him!

I last saw Bennett a few years ago when the San Francisco Symphony performed Mahler's Symphony No. 2. What a great player. Here's a sample of Bennett's work.
