So you want your thumb ring engraved like a ring of incredible evil?

Or you could buy this one and have it soldered on.

Seems like an awful lot of money and effort for something that you'll want undone in a few years.

Get a copy of the script off of the internet. Get a brass repair specialist to remove the thumb ring from your tuba. Then take it to a shop that does engraving on rings, if you don't know of one ask your local jeweler. Take it back to the repair specialist.

To find out the cost, call all of the places involved and ask the approximate cost of each process. Add them up and voila.

Finally, think it through and if it is what you really want to do, don't listen to any of us cranky old guys/gals and get it done.

How much would it cost? Just five bucks... if I can use a hammer and chisel!

Or you could just use a multi-tool.

The only way to do this correctly is with a lightening bolt from the fingertip.

I would save the money on the dorkafide thumb ring and buy something useful, like MREs, LED flashlights, wind up radios, and loads of food and antibiotics.

At least write something useful in English with your name and permanent contact info, and engraved notes from "The Ride".

And you could always get a treat for a lady and maybe she will play your tuba. Then you might not even care.

The actual, real script is in the book, at the point where Frodo looks at the ring after Gandalf warmed it up in the fire at Bag End. It's amazing what you can find printed on actual paper these days.

I would expect that any good jewelry engraver could do the engraving, but considering that the very thought of it probably makes them a bit ill, they might charge top dollar. I would expect a price in the hundred-plus range, or higher if you have visibly pierced body parts or tattoos, or if you use the word "like" four times in every sentence.

But is this what you want written on your tuba?

"One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them; One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

If I'm going to get blisters on my thumb, I'd rather do it in a more uplifting cause.
