air-bag recall

A new recall has been announced that affects passenger-side airbags from "Takata Corp" installed in ageing tuba-capable vehicles manufactured by GM, Mazda, BMW , Honda, Nissan, and Toyota during about 2001 to 2003. Here's one of the links:

Reading between the lines on some of the other links, I think the explosive charges that inflate these things may have got a bit damp in storage, adding a bit of steam to their output, and the extra oomph from the steam is a bit much for the inflator mechanism. Whatever the exact cause, the inflator sometimes ruptures, and bits of metal may fly around the passenger compartment.
There are probably a few of these vehicles in use in the tuba community: If you are using one, best get it checked. If you have a Honda, you can check your VIN on
