Bee stands for bloke

I have been reading about bees (I am interested in getting two colonies) and saw that bloke had some. While I know that they travel over a few thousand acres, what is the proximity to the hive that I have to be concerned with for everyday going about my business? I have a pool and my wife keeps laughing at me that we will have to swim with snorkels if bees are in the area. I only have a 1/4 acres, and I have neighbors on 3 sides within 200'.

Folks around here keep them in their back yards, typically, and we're talking about classic "postage stamp" real estate. The Italian bees or whatever people get these days are extremely mild mannered, you could probably step on one and it would say "excuse me." (Whatever happened to those killer bees that were headed our way?) Most likely way they'll hurt you is they will all die and break your heart.

Good to know. There is a corner of my property that I would like to put some hives. It would be near a fence with the entrance facing me, but I have neighbors on the back side (6 ft. away) and also the side (about 12 ft. away). My pool is about 35 ft. away so I just want to make sure I can still use my yard and my neighbors won't be disturbed (although they are never in those portions, just trying to be a good neighbor).
