Mostly true, though embelished a lot based on info here.

Snope has a long track record of correctly debunking internet rumors.
They linked the ISPN site, which is new to me. They did confirm the most incredible part (to me anyway), they poem in Eddie's pocket.
The "stories" are just that, stories (read: entertainments, although with truth mixed in with conjecture...)
And often have a great moral, even if facts are played loosely. In the above case, the fact that the O'hare the airport is named for was a Medal Of Honor winner, and the son of a member of Capone's gang is enough. The embelishments, make a great moral story, but detracts from the truth. I read it and though this cannot be true, so went looking.

Is the fact that a mobster's son won the Medal of Honor, and saved many lives not enough? Do we really need the supposition about a guy trying to come clean? And is the poem in the pocket as signifigant as the story makes it, or just a coincidince?
