I can't disagree with the Doc Martens recommendation. I've owned one pair and while I eventually decided it wasn't "dressy" enough for the office where I work, it lasted forever.

I work in an office now, but I used to work in an automotive garage and, prior to that, a stable. For each of those 'manual' jobs, I purchased a pair of Brahma steel-toe leather boots for c.$50 apiece. I quit the garage in 2007, but still have both pairs of boots (I'm wearing the brown ones in the office right now) and they are still in good condition/no cracking/no resoling, etc.

I have worn them virtually every day in long midwestern winters and rainy midwestern autumns (again, since 2007) and they are still as waterproof as day one. I can't speak to their tolerance for chemicals, but they have been resistant to motor oil, horse s***, and road salt. And if you decide to set a trailer on your foot or a horse stands on it, they hold up. I also have found them to be more slip-resistant and more comfortable than other work boots I've owned (i.e. Wolverine).

I've never sprung for the Doc Martens, but they do look snappy.

I've got a pair of these that I use to cut the grass and they are pretty comfortable. Had 'em 10 yrs now.

Red Wing boots are about twice as expensive as you are looking for, but are twice as nice and will last a really long time. To me, its worth the investment.

I ususally buy the the Trends Hiker III . These will will last me about a year but I wear them EVERY day I work. As you know I am a big ole boy I put a lot of wear and tear on shoes because of my size. Also they are very water resistant . Most will resist chemical spills and since they are somewhat waterproof you can just spray them off with a hose. There are plenty to choose from that are under $100.

Love my Wolverines. I have been wearing them for 15 years just about every day in the fall and winter and I am on my third pair. I wear the boots, but they make shoes that should meet your needs.

I've lately been buying Timberland work boots, available in a variety of styles and colors. A pair last me between a year or two years, but I wear them everyday outside on hot pavement in summer and winter weather wear they are exposed to snow road salt, etc. I apply a silicon based water repellant to them monthly they aren't water tight like rubber boots but it helps.

I've bought Red Wings in the past and they last a little longer but in my mind not enough to warrant the 2 xs the price of the Timperland boots.

I buy my Timberland boots at Sears and they can be bought with Steel toes for $100.00 if you get them on sale.

I have problem feet, hammertoes wide foot. I was in the new Academy Sports here in Collierville and they had a "Lot" of work shoes. Many were steel toe and gas and oil resistant. You could always go for Redwing. There's a store on Covington Pike.

Our local farm and ranch store has a variety of styles, colors, material etc. for work boots. I have worn Danner Boots for the past 15 years or so, and have been very pleased with them. Non-skid, steel shank (steel toe options that I didn't need), waterproof enough to work outside in Oregon winters and keep feet warm and dry. Being able to go to their Portland store and buy seconds has made a big difference. Georgia Boot makes some good boots, as do Wolverine and such. I liked the site that OBN suggested as well.
