Tall man, tall dog. Great picture, thanks for sharing it. Did he greet you at the door like that every day?

So sorry for your loss.

A sad time, indeed, Schlep. You have my sympathy... :(

I don't know you other than from TubeNet, but you have my sympathy - sometimes coming home to that un-conditional, happy-to-see-you-no-matter-what-your-day-has-been-like, greeting from your dog can be the best part of the day. It's amazing how much a part of our families some pets become.
We'd all be better men if we could be what our dogs seem to think we are. I hope you had many happy times together.

Hate to spoil your illusion but you never "own" a cat. For cat lovers that is usually part of the fascination. Not sure you can own a dog either, but at least they play along with the game.

No pun intended, but that's a big pet peeve of mine. I don't think that people "own" animals at all, they are living creatures with free will, I don't "own" any of it.

Just as goofy is "pet parents" or people calling themselves the pet's "mom" or "dad." That's just weird to me.

I always say "I have a dog" and that she is our dog, and we are her people. Maybe I'm the weirdo, though?

There are mostly "dog" people and "cat" people. There are very few "dog and cat" people. This becomes obvious whenever this conversation comes up. Different strokes.

Schlep -

You have my deepest sympathy. When we lose one, I am not worth shooting for at least a month. A non-pet person just doesn't get it - just like a non-musician just doesn't get some things.

My dog bit my nose last night. I must've bumped into her while she was sleeping and scared her. She snapped up at me and didn't break the skin, but it left a bruise in a place I never thought it was possible. I yelped "aagh!!," she froze immediately, and then submitted/apologized by laying on her back and asking for a belly rub. She didn't get it, but I knew she was sorry for what she did.

Love that dog.

I just realized that I've neglected adding my condolences. I guess I was too busy taking the thread in a different direction. Sorry Schlep. I really do anguish with you. I remember holding my Beau in my lap as he quietly breathed his last. A treasure lost as I'm sure was Bud. I think I'll start another thread so this one can remain true to the original point.

Schlep,

A true loss indeed, dogs are incredible companions. Looking forward to the pictures of your next "Best Friend".
