question to ebay sellers.

Post by cjk »

I sold something on ebay. It was not tuba related. The winning bid was around $85. I offered free shipping which actually cost about $12.

I shipped it via USPS with a shipping label purchased through ebay. That also contained tracking.

It shipped. Tracking showed it was delivered. The buyer claims to not have received it. I have been very communicative with the buyer. I have called the buyer's post office and spoken to the delivery supervisor. The delivery supervisor spoke to the letter carrier who delivered the package. They confirmed the package was left on the front steps of the proper home. The buyer has also called the post office and was told the same thing.

So the buyer opens a case with ebay and wants a refund. Am I just out of luck here? Has anyone on here ever been an ebay seller and had an ebay case judged in their favor?

Thanks,
Christian

Hope you get this sorted. I, personally, believe that it is over for you as the USPS claim that proper delivery was made. It is up to the buyer now to contact the local police and file a felony theft report.
+1--it was the buyer's post office, not you or your post office, that left the package on the steps. You fulfilled your end. While I feel sorry for the buyer, his post office should have left a slip for pick up at the post office.

It's my suspicion that ebay will judge this in favor of the buyer no matter what I do.

Doesn't USPS give $50 insurance on any package without buying extra?

Yes Dan, but the package was delivered. Maybe I am nuts, but I would not expect that to be covered.

I haven't had this kind of problem in quite some time, so my understanding may be dated, but a few years ago the tracking showing it was delivered would have put you in the sun. I hope that's still the case.

I'm fairly certain that eBay's policy is to side with the buyer in a case like this... PayPal seller protection specifies that you are only covered if you ship to a PayPal "verified" address, and use delivery signature confirmation.

Needless to say, I'm pleased by this:
ebay wrote: eBay opened a case because of an issue with an item purchased from you. We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of $84.00 without any impact to you. The refund includes the purchase price plus original shipping.

This case is now closed. You are not required to reimburse the buyer or eBay, and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.
