Boss Dr. Whatever-swap

A friend who teaches middle-school band was lamenting the fact that some predecessor had pruchased a Boss Dr. Rhythm instead of a Dr. Beat and that the confounded thing was just too complicated to even think about using as a metronome.

I mentioned that I had a Dr. Beat (DB-88, the one that's got the dominatrix female voice) and that I'd consider swapping wtih him, which he thought was a great idea. I normally run my metronome through my sound system when I'm practicing anyway.

But I've got no experience with the Dr. Rhythm and it looks slightly less complicated than the control panel to a nuclear reactor. (It comes with both books).

Is this a good idea (I'm going to use it mostly as a metronome anyway) or should I back away from the deal?

Why not find it/print it/read it...and to heck with what we think?
Joe, I have not only the original packaging to the thing, but both (instructions and presets) printed books. I kind of like it, though it does lack the simplicity of a standard metronome.

I'm just wondering if I've missed a "gotcha" that others may know about with this thing.

OTOH, it won't shout "ONE TWO THREE FOUR" at me... :?
