From a friend of mine--FYI...Mark

It might pay to print this out.

SENIOR DISCOUNTS

Keep this list and send a copy to your senior friends and relatives.

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too. This incident prompted me to do some research , and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50.

This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

Hoo, boy. I'll bet that at least 20%, and as many as half, of the discounts listed are either nonexistent or wrong.

I guran-damn-tee if your senior friend goes to Food Lion on Monday, fills his/her cart, and asks for the big, fat 60% seniors discount at the checkout, he/she is going to be sorely embarrassed, 'cuz Food Lion doesn't offer a 60% senior's discount. Hell, they don't even offer 6%. In fact, Food Lion DOESN'T EVEN OFFER a senior's discount.

And Kmart doesn't offer a senior's discount either.

Kroger's discount is no longer 10% (and back when it was, it was only valid one day a month). The current discount is 5% one day a week (day varies by location).

Dunkin Donuts' senior discount policy is optional. Individual franchise owners may choose to participate at their discretion.

Moral of the story: just 'cuz you saw it on the 'Net doesn't mean it's true.

My local Ace Hardware gives veterans a 10% discount anytime for the asking. One day a cashier spotted a small Navy tattoo on my forearm.

"Waldorf Astoria - NYC: $5,000 off nightly rate for Presidential Suite (55 +)"

This discount will come in handy next Valentines Day for those of us
who haven't become completely cynical and misanthropic.
