The NJ Symphony invited attendees to bring their instruments for a short rehearsal and performance of the Toreador March from Carmen, following a concert on March 15. The group was comprised of about 80 musicians including about 20 members of the NJSO as well as Hillary Hahn who had earlier performed the Brahms Violin Concerto. The amateurs had previously downloaded the music and came prepared. Rehearsal lasted about 10 minutes. That's me on the right sitting next to Derek Fenstermacher, principal tuba of NJSO. We played in the lobby of the magnificent NJPAC.

That sure looks like fun! I wish Atlanta would do that. What did Hilary play? I heard her do the Nielson a couple of weeks ago in Atlanta and she was fantastic!
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Ms Hahn played the Brahms Concerto. Even better was the encore she played, a short work probably by Bach that I'm not familiar with. Played masterfully.

Sounds like the encore she played in Atlanta. "Breathtakingly beautiful", was my daughter's comment. I think this is the one, but she slowed it down a bit.

I have been told that "All Things Considered" will do a broadcast story this afternoon (Tues. Mar. 25). There is also a companion piece on the NRP website:
