Arban's and young students

I have a niece in 8th grade that plays the trumpet and absolutely loves it. We will be going to see her for her birthday this year, along with her older sister's high school graduation, and I'd like to get her an Arban's book but I don't know if I should get her a copy of "My First Arban" or if I should just get her the big book. I know that she won't be able to play most of the big book, but I know it will help her out; I have no experience with the young player's book so I don't know anything about it other than what I can read on the website descriptions so I come to you, the TNFJ for advice and laughter. Much thanks!

That's my thought too and one of the reasons why I'll probably just go with the big book.

Be SURE to get a wire bound edition. It will lay flat, and the binding will last much longer.
Agree that the fat book is the one to get.

Buy the big book once.
Maybe include a French dictionary as well.

I went ahead and got the big book and was very disappointed that they did not have the spiral bound. Apparently the new edition no longer comes with a spiral binding option.

Should you have the opportunity to need an Arban "light" again, this should do fine. It condenses the big book into something less intimidating. Not very exciting, but it gets the job done. I used the tuba version as a young tubist.

Take the book to Staples or a similar office supply store, they can cut the binding off and spiral bind it for you. I've done this with several large books like the Arban's.
You made the right choice getting the large book the first Arban's book is included in it's entirety in the big book.
