Fire Warning, or lack thereof!

My daughter's in-laws just had their house burn down around them In the wee hours Saturday morning. They got out but they only saved themselves. It seems that neighborhood fireworks caught the roof, or some part of the upper level, on fire and it spread slowly through the attic. By the time the smoke got into the main part of the house and the alarm went off it was too late to do anything but run. EVERYONE, PLEASE PUT A SMOKE ALARM IN YOUR ATTIC! They might have had as much as an hour more warning if they had.
