It's really up to the individual cat. One of our cats follows me into my practice room and goes to sleep a few minutes after I start playing. The other one will leave the room as soon as I pick up the tuba (even before I play a note).

There is a Dixieland group that rehearses at my house every Saturday morning when we're not out on a job. My two cats LOVE the band and come out immediately after we start playing. They get bored after three or four tunes. But... after a mid-way coffee/doughnut break they return. 'Treble'... the little black cat likes to sit on the trombone players lap.

The kitten that I got after the brass quintet started practicing at my house, would fall asleep in the middle. The other two cats, who had not grown up with it, would be in the far reaches of the house. One of those two, however, if I were playing piano, would come lie down on the top and go to sleep.

Where did you get those tiny instruments? Or maybe you found some giant cats.

Both of my dogs seem to love my tuba practice sessions. They come into the room, curl up and sleep. (Maybe they think sometime is dying and will get to eat it when I'm done.)

Alright then, I'll contribute this picture of myself and our tomcat, Ringtail Jr. Ring regularly joined me when I was practicing Bass Trombone and Tuba for a production of "Mary Poppins" I played for this summer. In this instance, I hope his little siesta wasn't an editorial comment about my Tuba playing being boring.

My cat, Oreo, used to love to listen to the tuba, liked to sleep in my gig bag, and would curl up with the sousaphone. My cat Wonka is OK with the tuba playing, and will sit outside on the deck while the quartet practices inside. He does not care for trumpet playing. My friends dog Hunter was OK with accordion and tuba and hid under the piano when the recorders came out. I have to go play test her other dog, Sheila and see what she likes.

My cat Oscar loves when I play the Tuba or Bass, and typically sits right next to me. Here's a good picture where he wanted to really be a part of the moment.

One more witness. Our cat sits right beside my chair when I play the tuba, and goes upstairs to my daughter's bedroom on a different floor and the other end of the house when I pull out the bass trombone. She's glad to see me head out of the house these days, since all three tubas are in two different shops getting various kinds of work done.

I thought this thread was about Cats and Tubas.
