Outlook?

Is there anyone here with some expertise in Outlook mail programs?
My tech-savvy wife is going crazy trying to set up groups as she changes over to her new computer and new mail program with it. She can't export her old ones, nor can she create new ones, which makes no sense at all. She has read all kinds of tech support stuff, viewed you-tube how-to's, all to no avail. Her new Dell is running windows 8.1.
I am not the techie in the family, so make it simple enough for me to explain to her, please?
Thanks!

What program and version is (was) she using on her old computer, and what version of Outlook is she using on her new computer?

Hi, I'm the wife..lol
My older laptop was running Windows 7 and I used livemail and had my emails come into my mail program and read on the computer. I loved that program but it is not compatible with Windows 8.1 which is on my new Dell computer. Windows 8.1 does not support that program and suggested one of 3 programs to download. I chose the Outlook.com as the program. What a mistake. I do not like it. I have not been able to import my address book of over 300 people, let alone the many group emails that I need to utilize. Looking at Youtube as well as viewing all the Outlook info I can fine, I do not see a way to combine names into groups or bring in my vast list other than one by one typing. I do not like the look of the email program and I like to have all of my options on a toolbar. Please help me find a way to make groups as I am going back and forth between computers to send and write etc...All of the instruction that I see on line has a very different look than the screen that I see at outlook.
thanks, dutch

I haven't worked with much LiveMail, but it appears that you can export your contacts to a .CSV (comma-separated value) file, which can be imported into Outlook..

Re: the problem of not being able to create new groups in Outlook, since you mentioned Outlook.com, note that Outlook.com does not support Outlook 2010 or 2013 contact groups. One workaround would be to create a QuickStep in Outlook.
