Please tell me that isn't real. That has got to be an on-purpose, staged joke. Right?

Portsmouth Sinfonia they were an art school project anyone could join as long as they were beginers on their instrument.
Only 2 rules attend every rehersal and do not intentionaly play poorly.
They had quite a following released several albums, tv spots and a film.

I auditioned right after Arthur School once...
all I recall was that the committee was having a hard time getting back in their seats!

"The Portsmouth Sinfonia: have they still got what it doesn't take?" The Sinfonia was once served with a cease-and-desist order by the publishers of Also Sprach Zarathustra. To Lewis's eternal regret, the case never came to court. "I wanted to bring the whole orchestra in as witnesses. They complained that we'd rearranged the piece, and we said, 'No, we haven't, we just haven't been able to play it very well.'" In other words, although he doesn't say so himself: punk.

The UK Sunday Times did a piece on them.
They are laying claim to being the first punks!

This ensemble existed while I still lived in Britain, back in the eighties or early nineties.
I seem to remember they made the national News by firing someone for practicing.
They apparently use the "feel it" method. For them, it works (at least it does what they want).

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, they were around in the seventies, and haven't performed since 1979: seemed more recent than that - I guess the scars never really heal.

I just got around to listening to that. Not what I expected.

Might have some sort of musical kinship with another '70s group, Banda Plástica de Tepetlixpa. The story one may read about them is that they were simply the town band, when Paul McCartney and John Lennon passed through on a sight-seeing tour, and to the delight of their guests they undertook to learn and play a couple Beatles tunes. They turned out to have a certain way with the music and recorded an LP or two. Here's Yesterday, to pick a relatively brief one.
