The prices on the Effie Suite, the Blazhevich I and II and other methods, studies, etc., have become astronomical in price; $28-$35 I just can't pay that much for any of them. We won't discuss the full Arbans method book.

Blazhevich is now in the public domain and is free on IMSLP: http://bit.ly/1hSaGyp

Your best bet would be to buy them used from people on the board here. I doubt you'd have much trouble tracking them down.

My reply to comments like this (and not directed solely at you) is "what SHOULD it cost?" For something that people only buy new once (if even at all), it's only natural that the price will continue to rise. It's a very small market.

Try comparing what they cost now to what they used to cost.

The Blazhevich I and II books cost $2.00 each in ~1942.

According to the government's inflation calculator (http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl? ... year2=2015) that is equal to ~$29.28 today.

Comparatively:
That same book is available thru Amazon for $26.75 (plus ~$4 shipping to your door).
If you download the pdf files for the Blazhevich and print it yourself with 3-hole punching at a self-service print store, you'll pay ~$7.50 +tax, +transportation to the store and still need to buy a 3-ring binder to hold it all together.

The replies have been very good and I thank you all. I'm living in the past, far too much.

If you happen t find a copy of Donald Knaub's "Progressive Techniques for Tuba", It's a complete method book and it includes all 70 Blazevich etudes. I got my copy free someplace, years ago, but it's marked US$ 14.95.

I find it interesting that we grumble and complain about how the Chinese government (of which I am NO fan) "unfairly" manipulates it's currency to its benefit (and our detriment), while at the same time we have the Federal Reserve (a completely UNELECTED and IMHO ILLEGAL group of elitists that basically rule our country by financial fiat) manipulating our currency DAILY by keeping interest rates artificially low for YEARS on end.

The final "FU" to the gold standard being the renaming of Mt McKinley.

How did we get from, " I am shocked at what I am going to have to pay for the tuba books I need!" to THIS. Sorry Joe, but even those of us who basically agree with you on these issues get really tired of every thread you touch going in this direction. JUST GIVE IT A BREAK! :x :x :x

Before you blame Joe for going off topic, you should take the effort to read the comments that came before his reply....

Joe, I do not disagree with you. I just have better ways to spend my time than go over the same rhetoric again and again. When I see a post title that suggests this topic I simply don't open it anymore. I am bit put off when I start reading a post and it evolves into this. Again, I don't disagree. I'm just tired of it all.

If I move to Tennessee, will you cover me? I'll promise I'll get you back when my quintet does the tuba-clarinet polka.
