Has anyone tried their hand at magnet fishing ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLqhPArBFkE

I'd liked to know if you've ever pulled up something other than metal junk. I'm also looking for a source for reasonably priced N52 magnets to use for this. I understand these can be expensive so I'm not looking "cheap" but just reasonable.

I've tried it at our local lake. Our lake has about 8 feet of silt on the bottom and it was pointless in trying to drag the magnet anywhere. I'd bought one of those special magnets from Cabelas to use for this.

I lived on a houseboat for a while, and had some ideas I might be able to recover a few of my own possessions that way. Don't remember that I hooked anything. Better magnets are now more easily available, though.

One of my sons tried this in the pond we had. He used a really strong rare earth magnet I had for other things. It stuck to something immovable on the bottom and the best he could do was recover as much of the rope as he could reach with a knife.

Harbor freight has a 250 lb magnet that runs under $20.
