Buffing Room Blues
I know some of you guys are repairmen and I'm interested in hearing your horror stories about stuff you've destroyed with a buffer. C'mon now... surely someone has wrapped a trombone slide around their neck!

*Yes, I'm aware that the "arbiter of truth", snopes, disagrees vehemently, but - yup - snopes isn't perfect either (definitely with their p.o.v. and agenda as well) ...and - when doctors screw up, they can just say, "we did the best we could..."...and - again - WHAT percentage of doctors were in the top 1% of their graduating classes...Come on...
You can solve THIS math problem...[/quote]
Please enlighten us with the facts in making such a statement....

No, guns don't kill people. Doctors kill people with guns...bort wrote:So... Doctors with guns have trouble in the buffing room? I'm confused, yo.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Pilots stay three mistakes off the ground. Engineers cover their butts by over-engineering with multiple safety factors. Buffers are the same.... always thinking ahead about how they'll fix stuff they tear up.

Re: Buffing Room Blues
Reading from left to right in the word "Libertarians" just drop the "t", replace the "r" with "l", then drop "ian".
The 4 dropped letters can be scrambled to make "anti" and the old word "Libertarians" has now been corrected in the context above.

Re: Buffing Room Blues
I have similar observations about myself...
Young, untrained, untutored, washing machine motor and buffing wheel provided by the hardware store owner where I worked.
I learned very hard lessons about which way to buff, what angle to use, what to wear, what compounds to use, protective equipment, why you want an enclosed area, etc.
Fortunately on junk that I was trying to clean up from my equally informed soldering efforts on clunkers I could easily afford on a high-school student's income.
You want stories, I did everything it was possible (and probably some impossible) to mess up.
But not on other peoples's stuff... and I learned a LOT! (not the least of which is why you want someone experienced and practiced on something you intend to make noise with again!)

Re: Buffing Room Blues
That is the problem I have when using them to buff auto stuff. I wish I could find a mask that at least didn't fog up. I could live with the hot if i had to, but not the fog issue .bloke wrote: Those masks are protective and a GOOD idea, but also problematic. They are VERY hot, they fog up, and - after about two hours, end up so permanently scratched up that I might as well be trying to buff with the lights off.

Re: Buffing Room Blues
Yeah - I swim 10,000 yards a week - so I've already tried that and even the anti-fog stuff I use for my swim goggles and car windows - no luck - I'm just one of those people that generates a lot of body heat/sweat - even walking outside buck naked in 0 degree weatherthe elephant wrote:Spit on the inside and rub it around. It works well, despite being gross sounding. (Old swim mask trick.)
