I know some of you guys are repairmen and I'm interested in hearing your horror stories about stuff you've destroyed with a buffer. C'mon now... surely someone has wrapped a trombone slide around their neck!

Pilots stay three mistakes off the ground. Engineers cover their butts by over-engineering with multiple safety factors. Buffers are the same.... always thinking ahead about how they'll fix stuff they tear up.

Sort of like everyday driving... ALWAYS leave yourself an 'out'.

I have similar observations about myself...

Young, untrained, untutored, washing machine motor and buffing wheel provided by the hardware store owner where I worked.
I learned very hard lessons about which way to buff, what angle to use, what to wear, what compounds to use, protective equipment, why you want an enclosed area, etc.
Fortunately on junk that I was trying to clean up from my equally informed soldering efforts on clunkers I could easily afford on a high-school student's income.

You want stories, I did everything it was possible (and probably some impossible) to mess up.
But not on other peoples's stuff... and I learned a LOT! (not the least of which is why you want someone experienced and practiced on something you intend to make noise with again!)

That is the problem I have when using them to buff auto stuff. I wish I could find a mask that at least didn't fog up. I could live with the hot if i had to, but not the fog issue .

Yeah - I swim 10,000 yards a week - so I've already tried that and even the anti-fog stuff I use for my swim goggles and car windows - no luck - I'm just one of those people that generates a lot of body heat/sweat - even walking outside buck naked in 0 degree weather Not recommended in daylight with neighbors nearby!
