Returning to playing after about 40 years...Started on tuba as a kid, but switched to bass trombone (King 5-B Symphony), which I played until graduation from college. Missed it, but only recently decided to play again, and bought a Mack Brass 410CC, which I like very much and appreciate the excellent service and support Tom has provided. After about 5 months, am playing in the local community band. Have found Tubenet to be a valuable resource, and thought since I was online here frequently, would sign up officially.

Welcome! I quit playing tuba when I left the Navy in 1968 and picked it up again in 1998. I discovered it's a lot like riding a bike. You never really forget.

Welcome! Yes, you never quite forget how, but there is a loss of competence! I'm still trying to get back to where I was. As far as musicianship, yes, I am much better; as for the technical part-----meh!

Play and perform and enjoy. Do that long enough and you might be better than you were.

I remember being better then, than I am now!!

That probably goes for a lot of things...

Thanks to all for your welcoming comments. Indeed, it is a challenge, but I find I now look forward to practicing (not my experience when I was younger), and am greatly enjoying being part of an ensemble again. There is no better feeling (well, perhaps its one of the top-five) when you hit a note solidly (and in tune)...that bass note is the heart and soul of the music...It may take a while before I get even close to where I was decades ago, but its a pleasure to be on the journey.
