it is that time of year again. I HATE turbotax; it's like a mac computer in that you have to do it "its way or the highway." The last few years I have used TaxAct but it seems to be as expensive as Turbotax now. Anything else out there that is any good? The requirement: I do not / will not do my taxes online, so it must be downloadable. Since I itemize for the state, and my state requires that I have the federal schedule A filled out, I have to buy the federal itemizing level of program. So being a penny pincher I'm looking for the cheapest thing out there that is NOT TURBOTAX.

Credit Karma says their tax prep is free. It's their first year doing it so I believe there's a waiting list. They advertise that no matter what form you're using, it's still free.

I think they are only online. I'll pay for a download before I'll do an online ("easily hacked") anything. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't use any tax software at all, so it's down to the cost of printing out the completed forms, and the postage.
