If it was a Memphis city school, it probably means that the mayor was serious about cutting most everything from the budget.

Ever since "American Pie" (the movie), most band directors are proabably requiring most kids to keep their flutes at home.

Seriously, when I was in band, flautists did not get their own lockers, mainly because the director felt that they didn't need one. Oh, and we didn't have room for the trumpets and saxes hardly either.

I guess the tubas were either too beat up or too big....???

And yet, they took the oboes (at least I assume so, otherwise, Joe woiuld've said "bassoons"--unless the band has a bunch of sarrusophones squirreled away).

Other than a piccolo, I can't think of many in-the-case instruments smaller than an oboe. :?

A lot of kids don't rent-to-own oboes.

Most schools supply the double reeds, from what I've experienced.

Probably because no one else will buy them.

Did the crooks also leave the euphoniums/baritones?

They probably took the euphoniums and left the baritones. Even crooks can tell the difference.

A couple of years ago we had an oboe or bassoon stolen from Lee University. It turned up a few days later in a shopping cart at the local Wal-Mart!!
You can't make this stuff up.
