Terrorist threats made against me Tuesday afternoon in L.A.

Hello tuba friends. Tuesday afternoon I was threatened by some thugs who hang around the business across the street from my studio. I fear for my life in this situation, and your thoughts and prayers would be kindly appreciated.

Below is a report I wrote out for the LAPD while the incident was still fresh in my mind. I have tried to "X" out foul language and personal information.

I , Dylan King, by all my rights as a citizen of the U.S.A, California, and Los Angeles, promise that this statement is true as best that I can remember it.

On May 3, 2004 at approximately 1845 hours I called Los Angeles Parking Enforcement about a two-toned blue Volkswagen van CA plates 5JDR654, that was parked on the street blocking the driveway to the garage outside of my residence and business. The address is XXXXA XXXX Ave, Los Angeles, 900XX. I informed the traffic officer on the phone of the situation and he advised me that he would send a unit to that location and issue a citation or tow the vehicle. The officer on the phone took my telephone number and said he would call me when the traffic officer arrived outside the building.

At approximately 1900 hours I received the call from LADOT to come outside and meet the traffic enforcement officer outside. I walked out of my door and met the officer (possibly Barret/Baker) in front of the door to my apartment. At that time there were three subjects from the Futuro Car Wash business across the street who were yelling at the traffic officer. The three subjects immediately turned to me when they saw me come out of the door and walked towards the traffic officer and me, while cursing and threatening me.

Subject #1 is described as a male, Hispanic, 27yrs, 5’10â€

What Bloke said.

I grew up going to school in the toughest part of inner-city Dallas. I knew lots of punks like this. Intimidation is a way of life for these guys -- they spend a lot of time posturing. More than likely, if they REALLY planned to do you harm they'd have just done it, not spouted off in front of a law enforcement officer. Still, given the inhumanity of today's city life, you just never know. Our prayers are with you, MSM.

That crap is just not right!!!! I pray for your safety. Something must be done about scum like this. There is no place in our society for filth such as these individuals and that's exactly what they are:garbage. I remember a while back there was garbage such as this in my neighborhood but we took care of it. As long as the good get together then the bad can't win. I'm sorry if this is sorta incoherent but it makes me mad when good people might be in danger for doing the right thing. Be safe my friend....

It's a crying shame nice folks have to put up with the likes of axxholes like this. This is exactly the reason why I chose to move from the city years ago. Yes... there are jerks like this even in Evansville, Indiana. I think maybe they were trumpet players at one time :!:

Given how they acted and my previous experiences, I'd guess you encoutered either drug dealers or pimps (or both.) Good luck. The entire neighborhood will have to band together in order to change this situation.

And people get this way because of how they grew up, which put them in a mindset that this is the way to be.

Any Steven Levitt fans out there? He's the University of Chicago economist that pointed out that most drug dealers live at home with their mothers.

From a list I'm on; this appeared today. Suggested both as a way of being and as an email signature tag.

MSM,
Considering your currnt location, I suspect you are already armed. If not a 12 ga. sounds like a good investment right now. You can always sell it late, when you no longer need it.

I suggest a semi-auto, and buck shot. The deterrent of a pump would be wasted on these types, and the quick cycling of a semi-auto could be handy.

Usefull site concerning weapons, and CCW permits.

Intersting, first offense for most, then concealed carry is a misdemeanor. A typical fine is $200.

Not sure what it takes to purchase on there though. Given it's the left coast there's probably a long waiting period fo any firearm. You could alway borrow one, of get one the same way the thugs do.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I have been on the phone with the LAPD PAcific Division all morning and still haven't been able to speak with a detective. Isn't that terrific?

I am well armed as well. I have a 12 guage at the top of my staircase ready and loaded. I am also now carrying my Sig .357 automatic when I go out. I am well trained in firearms and know how to be safe and conceal. I must walk the dog and go out from time to time, and for now I'm not taking any chances. I think the police will understand if they stop me for concealment. If not, I'd rather take a small rap then be dead.

I hope I never have to use violent force on any human being. I don't even think I could if provoked. I am putting my protection in God's hands at this point, and am considering moving to Nebraska.

I was born and raised in this town. I went through schools in the inner cities, and have had my trials over the years, but have never felt so helpless.

I just got off the phone with an LAPD detecive and the investigation is under way. She assured me they are going to do everything in their power to resolve this situation.

I am serious about wanting to move to Nebraska. The only problem is that I do most of my work for Warner Bros. in Burbank, maybe someday it will be cool foe producers to spot films over the internet. Until then, I may just have to move to one of the valley suburbs. I am praying that God grants me wisdom in this situation.

Thank you Doc. I am prepared to fire if necessary. I would never present a firearm unless I was truly going to use it for lethal force.

My mother just found out about this. I'm in big trouble now!

Read the packing.org info.
California law has a gray area, a de facto quasi-right-to-carry. The state law provides that carrying a concealed weapon (including a knife or blackjack) is a FELONY, however, a clear exception exists. If you are carrying a gun (not a knife!) AND it was legally purchased AND you are not a gang member (yes, there is a statutory definition of gang member) AND it is your first such arrest, then concealed carry is a misdemeanor. A typical fine is $200.

I was looking over the link you had, and saw the new .50 BMG law.
That sucks. especially this one:
17. Can a registered .50 BMG rifle be inherited and kept?

No. Pursuant to California Penal Code section 12285(b)(3), any person who obtains title to a registered .50 BMG rifle by bequest or intestate succession shall, within 180 days, render the weapon permanently inoperable, sell the weapon to a licensed gun dealer who has a permit from DOJ to purchase assault weapons/.50 BMG rifles, obtain a permit from DOJ to possess .50 BMG rifles, or remove the weapon from this state.
One more reason I'll not live in CA. EVER!

Lot of good applying for a permit, which will take more than a month to get (if ever in LA), will do him tomorrow.

If he didn't already own a weapon, li=ooks like it 10 (business?) days minimum to actually take one home in CA too. Hand guns for sure, but I couldn't find anything for certain on long guns.

I could be wrong on this, but I think its only a misdemeanor for a first offense in CA. Its also next to impossible to get a concealed carry permit here, you either have to be transporting very large sums of money for work or be employed in security somehow.

MSM, sounds like your taking all the right precautionary steps. I wish you the best of luck, and be careful.

GET A GRIP BUDDY.
I have a good and tight grip on my pistol right now.

I could care less what color or race these people are. I have a busted knee, and right now can not walk a long way. I only have one parking space in front of my place, otherwise I must park at least 1/4 mile away. These fine gentlemen across the street think that just because they have "money" and "guns" they can park anywhere they wish. It is a private diveway! And the LAW here in Los Angeles tells us LAW-ABIDING citizens to call traffic enforcement if there is a problem. I pay my taxes for that very reason. So i do not have to get into a face to face battle with a bunch of retarted, cholo gangsters.

Why didn't I just go across the street and ask these guys to move their car? Maybe it's because these are the same people who owned and controlled the furniture company that burnt to the ground last year. viewtopic.php?t=5118 Or perhaps it is because the many times over the past few years that my sweet elderly landlords have asked them to do the same, they have been yelled at and spit on. Perhaps it is because they own four buildings across the street, including a nursery school and a crackhouse. (A child at that school was cut by a crackpipe that was throne over the fence and it made the local news). These thugs DO own both of these buildings. I'm sure if I just went over there with a large bouquet of flowers and a cookie they would be perfect gentlemen and move their car off of my property, especially seeing that I am temporarily disabled.

You may want to think twice about what racism really is before you begin shouting from the rooftops. Martin Luther King said it so well, but it appears that so many never understood what he meant. "I have a dream. That people will someday be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

I have had plenty of time to observe these people's character, and they certainly belong locked behind bars. And of course, none of this intimidation would be happening at all if they were never let into this country in the first place!

Ok. You're screwed. They OWN the building you live in? I don't EVER like the idea of leaving because of intimidation but this looks like a lost cause. Someone posted earlier to get the neighborhood around you together to fight this but it sounds like they OWN the neighborhood. I say it's time to move but of course that's just my opinion and that doesn't mean much. As far as someone trying to imply racism, give me a break!! It's true, illegal immigrants run rampant over there and over here in south Texas. Where I'm from Hispanics are the majority. Maybe it's that way over there....

These thugs do not own the building my studio is in. My building is owned by a wonderful family that has been here for over 50 years. The thugs own four building across the street and the building two over from mine that burnt down last summer. Next door to my building is a production house and there is a fast food restaurant on the other side. Everyone gets along fine with everyone else, with the exception of these idiots across the street.

It says you need get a permit. Why does that suck? And you have 180 days to get said permit.
Not after January 1, 2005 according to the other info. That was the last date to get the CA DOJ permit.

Stand your ground,Mellow Smoke Man.You need to be near a large city to do what you do.Apparently any large city can be lethal, but your mom lives in this one and your presence in this town is good for her.I cannot know your experience but it seems to be a good time to rally any allies in the neighborhood including mom and the police. The local populace would do well to send these clowns a message.
Be vigilant,

I woke up this morning to a vandalized car. My antenna was twisted half-off and one side of my car was keyed quite a few times. The police still haven't done anything. I have a hunch they may be investigating these thugs further than my little terrorist complaint.
