Good luck on the relocation. If you end up closer to Atlanta come on down and say hi at TubaChristmas :D

You already have the bullets, so you are halfway to stopping the home invaders. The other half is getting to them in time. I strongly recommend outfitting every door with a high security lock such as Medeco or MacLock or at the very least installing a Mag or high security strike plate. Most home invaders just boot open your front or back door, and most "deadbolts" can easily be opened with just one or two kicks; that may not be enough time to lock and load if you are sleeping. All alarms do is tell you that someone is already standing over you.
A well setup door can withstand enough blows to enable you to be the giver, instead of the receiver, of a big surprise. Anything can be defeated, but there are proven ways to make it take a lot more time and noise.
The article below shows just how easy it is to kick open a standard door, and how to make one that you need a forklift to batter down, without spending megabucks or looking like a crackhouse.

Wow, did anyone else click through Matthew's link to this?

If you haven't, DO. It's one of the most interesting research stories I've ever read. A little tease: they taught monkeys to use money, and the monkeys learned to use it ... just like people do!

Sort of off Joe's original topic but sort of still applies.... I got this from a friend a couple of days ago:

WE SHOULD PULL OUT NOW!

There has been an average of 160,000 troops stationed in Iraq during the
last 22 months.

During this time the firearm death total was 2,112 for a firearm death rate
of 60 per 100,000.

The rate in Washington DC is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are
more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of
the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington (and perhaps Gary and Memphis!)

monkey prostitution.... that is without doubt the funniest thing I have read all week. I wonder if, with the onset of monetary value and prostitution, they will develop a system of morals and religion......!

Yeah, that last paragraph really hit a nerve:
But these facts remain: When taught to use money, a group of capuchin monkeys responded quite rationally to simple incentives; responded irrationally to risky gambles; failed to save; stole when they could; used money for food and, on occasion, sex. In other words, they behaved a good bit like the creature that most of Chen's more traditional colleagues study: Homo sapiens.
Chen needs to find out of monkeys will declare war for money... :?
