Re: What is YOUR profession!
When this thread originated, I was a band director in a small, rural Texas town. My job included band 6-12, plus general music K-5. As soon as I could, I retired from that profession. I am now a free-lance tuba player, teach private lessons, and also work as a low brass clinician. Most of my work as a performer is with one of two German-type groups that I perform with. The TubaMeisters is a tuba-euph group that has become fairly popular at fests and private parties, in this area. We actually earn a fair amount of money. I also perform with a more traditional group known as The Sauerkrauts. At certain times of the year, this group is very busy, and travels over much of the continental U.S.
The work in the public schools was extremely stressful. I didn't realize how stressful until I left. I am a much happier man, these days. I still get to work with kids, and have little contact with administrators.

Job Title: Systems Programmer
Say What?: Basically I'm a Linux nerd who is the chief sysadmin and in charge of the hardware and OS infrastructure for the software product that my office designs. I've developed our virtual infrastructure and designed a bunch of scripts for making our jobs more efficient. Also, as a former support and implementation engineer, I spend a good bit of my time helping out the support and implementation folks with anything they need help with.
In Short: I get paid to play with computers.
Like I told my boss last week, every morning I drive to work content and happy to do my job. I enjoy what I do. There are a LOT of people out there who can't say the same. I feel blessed!!!!
