Dear friends,

There’s a stunning new display featuring William Bell’s legendary double tuba, the Bellophone, next to an astounding 3-D collage that assembles the deep history of the tuba, “Fanfare,” as you enter the new Musical Instrument Gallery at the Metropolitan Museum Art.

This delightful one-minute video (thanks, Facebook!) starts with glipses of Carolyn’s and my bus ride into Manhattan, family dinner and evening homage to my revered teacher, William Bell, at his table in his favorite watering spot. McSorley’s Old Ale House, where the he and his buddies sparked the idea for T.U.BA.,then jumps to the Met Museum, where the following morning 3 generations of Newberger tuba players joining to admire, toot, dine and pose.

Then, below, you can read how the Met Museum connects Mt. Bell, TubaChristmas, and the Bellophone.

Hearty tut-a-ka-tut, as Mr. Bell would toast at that table, to all,
