So, why is this?

Post by hup_d_dup »

So, it seems every topic or response must begin with the word so.

It never adds anything awesome to the conversation, at the end of the day.

It’s not a profound thought, only so/so

You can use "so" as a normal conjunction, "\A, so \B", but when you begin a topic with it, it conjoins your statement, or question, to nothing, so the listener doesn't have to think about how this might be related to what's already been said. It's utterly ambiguous in written form, though - you need timing, tone of voice etc. to get that meaning. In writing, it's more style than meaning. So it seems to me, anyway.

So... the key of bugle corps, right?
And that matters, as they aren't chromatic.
Thanks for playing!

So, this morning (Sat. Jan.12) I was listening to an interview on NPR. The questions were in English, and the answers, from Beijing, were in Chinese, translated to English. So, no fewer than three of the answers began with the word so. So, this is conclusive proof to me that in China people begin many of their sentences with the word so. Just like here.

So, you know si is a G# -- impressive bloke. Of course that's only on an ascending passage.

So, wait a minute - isn't "si" a B natural (in "fixed do", that is), or am I missing something?

(Of course, if you're using "moveable do", "si" can be whatever you want it to be....)

Not many use fixed Solfeggio. If you do, B natural is "ti." In fixed doh, #'s have "i" on the end of an ascending passage and (with the exception of Db) an "e" on the end of the syllable. So, :) Doh, Di, Re, Ri, Mi, Fa, Fi, So, Si, La, Li, Ti, Doh is an ascending chromatic scale. A descending scale would be Doh, Ti(De), Te,La, Le, So, Fi(Se), Fa, Mi, Me, Re, Ra(Di), Doh.

Wow, when did this come about? When I was taught fixed-do (back when pterodactyls roamed the skies) the accidentals didn't change the name of the note, and B natural was definitely si....
