Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine
What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream
You dreamed of a big star
He played a mean guitar
He always ate in the Steak Bar
He loved to drive in his Jaguar
So welcome to the machine

Glad you noticed.

The song, of course, is off the Wish You Were Here album, 1975. That summer, I saw my first Jaguar E-type "in the flesh" instead of just pictures, and it was also the year Jaguar discontinued the E-type, much to my disappointment. Being an impressionable 13-year-old, I knew that was my car. Not a 'Vette, not a "Muscle Car," not a "Pony Car," but an E-type as implied in the song. The picture in my first post is actually my second Jaguar convertible, which I got a little over a year ago. I used to own 1967 E-type Convertible 1E13203 until the ex lied and cried to the judge and he gave it to her, even though I had it years before I even met her. Attached is a picture from either the late '80's or early '90's after I got my E-type, taken at a friend's house who also had an E-type, a coupe, and we worked on them together. In the picture, I am wearing my Jaguar sweater that I bought at the factory in Coventry, England.

The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."

The three position Lucas switch - Dim, Flicker and Off.
The Original Anti-Theft Device - Lucas Electrics.
Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices

Why do Brits drink warm beer?
Lucas makes refrigerators.
Yes, the electrics died a time or two on my E-type. Fortunately, they were fixable with the hand tools I always kept in the car.

For some reason, my parents love this song. So naturally, I can't stand it. Just reminds me of Saturday mornings as a kid, hearing this song on the stereo... and in the era of "we only own a few CDs", it was all the time... (Otherwise, I like Pink Floyd just fine, but this song...!) :)

I had similar experiences with my '70 Triumph Bonneville.
Did you have the Amal "tickle" carburetors to prime them in lieu of a choke, and did you flip the cylinder head around so that you got a poor man's "ramjet" effect on the air intake?
