Throat singing, in the form most people reference, is done with the voice producing a single note, in drone, while the shape of the mouth and position of the tongue producing the variations on pitch, whereas in yodeling, as I understand it, the voice does the bulk of the work. The simplest way to get a sense of throat singing is to voice a single pitch and say a connected A-E-I-O-U (like eighths over a whole note) over and over. It's the changing position of the tongue that will produce different overtones. Throat singers from Tuva are perhaps the best known. For a sampling of some Tuvan throat singing, go to

Is this the same technique used to create the different timbres/sounds/pitches on a digeridoo? If it is, I guess maybe I have doing it for years. Interesting.

Similar things can be done on a harmonica, as well, if I'm understanding all of this correctly. It's really neat if you can do it well. Alas, I cannot do it well. It is fun to try, though.
