Oscar Meyer has got to be down there. They are bland by design.

Corn King is the worst, in my book.
They're terrible boiled or microwaved. They must be grilled to the verge of being blackened to have any flavor.
Life's too short for crummy hot dogs--especially when Eckrich sells a decent cheap hot dog. Not sure if they're a national brand, though.

Around here, Oscar Mayer hot dogs cost $3.99, and they're especially disappointing at that price: I can get two packages of better hot dogs for what one pack of Oscar Mayer costs.Matt G wrote:Oscar Meyer has got to be down there. They are bland by design.

Anything with nitrates and nitrites. Get that crap out of there, and anything else tastes better.
I don't eat many hot dogs, so I buy whatever the meats person at the farmers market brings with them. Some local pork/beef farmer...

No or unnatural casings is what make makes otherwise decent dogs stinky.
But I used to look forward .50 beer and hot dog day at the Park and I didn’t care how bad they were!!

I love hot dogs, ever since I was four years old (1940). I have some fuzzy memories of some strange names of hot dog manufacturers. Wish I could remember them with exactitude. Something like "Doug's Doggone Good Dogs"; "Hot-Diggity Dawgs"; etc. You get the idea. I liked them all. Yum.

One that is sold around here is Bar S. Went to an in-laws cookout and could only eat half of one. Went home hungry that time.

I guess my pallette is pretty sad . . . the Bar-S 1/4lb jumbo dogs are a personal favorite. A lot lf the "designer" brands have me belching and backfiring for hours . . . waaaaay to lively for a simple hot dog . ..
