God bless those who brought an (any) instrument along to a refugee camp or a crowded motel to put a smile on sad faces.

In a case like this, I guess I´d leave to never come back again.
One more thing I´d take along: the photo album. I may not be interested to look at my previous life ever again, but my children and grandchildren will.

Just my .02€, a little on the melancholic side.

Thousands of people died!
Not to belittle the severity of anything, but I believe the number is 515.

That number's a little less than this one

There's a Woodsheddin' post asking for no more politcal comment so I will not comment on the mis-information included. However, all areas of government failed at many points: local, state and federal.

Moral: don't depend on the government to save you or your tubas/euphoniums or guitars.

Add 45 to that, all found in a hospital according to the NY Times (although it does say that the number includes people who died before the storm and the bodies in the morgue... hmm, not sure how much to trust the headline) -

And if those were probably Zeiss tubas, then they should be fine; them suckers are tanks.

Yes, but not the ones in your head.

Don't you mean Subwoofer??

My wife called my son at work and asked which items he would like saved if the house caught fire. She reckoned her jewelry and some paintings and pictures were most important. I grabbed the phone and told her that my Gibson guitar and tuba would have to be added to the list. She told me the tuba was heavy and might hurt her back to pick it up. I reminded her that Blue Cross would cover her back but the tuba was uninsured.

A few years ago, I was playing in an orchestra where the conductor suggested that everyone lisen to the tuba (in the context of tuning.) Someone asked me who I listened to, and I responded, "The voices in my head."
