Norm is a very ingenious, creative repairman. He almost always finds a way to make something work that is in your budget.

I recently picked up a Conn 2J that he had added a fifth valve to with a very clever linkage layout.

Is this going to be cut to CC or left in BBb?

Awesome! I love me some Frankentubas! I have a Lyon and Healy Eb tuba I might convert to something else someday. I'm excited to see your finished product!

That looks like it's going to be an absolutely outstanding project! 8)

I love that old ad you posted. The tuba player, Horace ("Hod") Seavey was with the Sousa Band during it's first European tour in 1900. He's the guy in the picture next to Herman Conrad.

I've never seen him in any endorsement ad - it's really cool... 8)

IIRC, the members of the Sousa Band were required to play Conn instruments, but I don't know if that stipulation was in practice as early as 1900....

That, is awesome!

Is that a detachable mouthpipe I detect?

I assume you got a chance to play it before the tear- down yes? I'll be interested to hear how it plays now. What modifications were being done?

Sounds great! I love seeing the work of those that take such great pride in their craft. I'm making my own meager attempts and love seeing these things come together.

Beautiful!

When you get it, can you post a photo of your playing it? Curious just how huge it really is!

I will do that - and you can see how huge *I* am, too! LOL I should have some pics tomorrow of Norm playing it - he was doing some tweaking today but said it sounds fabulous - so maybe I will sound pretty fair on it.
HA! Good point!

Well anyway, I share in your excitement about the new tuba. :tuba:

She's certainly a beauty! Best wishes to you and your new axe!

Tell me, did he cut the bell flare too, or is that the original diameter?

Only one problem, Terry... it's impossible to play a tuba while grinning that much.

What an exceptional tuba. Play it in good health! Congratulations!
