Polish nickel plating to prevent loss?

Hi,

I have a 1930s rebuilt nickel-plated Mahillon Eb tuba, which I wipe off with a microfibre cloth after practice. There is some loss of nickel around the bell.

Would some kind of wax or polish prevent further loss?
