Springs

Post by Tabor »

I think I have seen a link to a page with a bunch of different spings. I have a CC tuba with a 5th rotor. The linkage is on there but the spring I have is just too weake, probably because I changed the geometry from a regular paddle assembly on a rotor tuba to what it is now. I could make it work with other stuff, but I'd like it to just work with the linkage on there. Where does a person get this stuff?

I have never used this, but have been fascinated by this tool since it came out. Probably way overkill, but I thought it was worth posting a link to anyway.

I get my springs and linkage parts from these guys -

They'll also supply nickel silver rod, too.

They are very pleasant to work with, and they take PayPal, too..... :D

Would I rather get a spring from Elkhorn, Wisconsin than Markneukirchen, Germany? Absolutely - (not looking for "sexy" or "exotic", but merely "accessible" and "effective") - trouble is, besides the "we sell to repair shops only" policy, they guard their catalog as though it was the original Masonic rule book, so even if I try to order through a third party, it becomes a cumbersome process.

I understand all of the reasons why they do this (protect the jobs of technicians) - I'm perfectly OK with it, and I'm more than willing to pay a mark-up to have items that I want ordered for me - however, if I can't see the part numbers in the catalog (which I'm sure I can understand enough to know what I want) it becomes a back-and-forth game that does nothing but waste a lot of everybody's time (which is the last thing I want to do to someone who is helping me out). Whether it be tractor parts, Model T parts, appliance parts, etc. etc. etc., I prefer to place orders with part numbers from catalogs - it just makes it easier for everyone involved - I can't do that if I can't see the catalog.

Besides, even if I had a copy of their catalog, they're still not going to sell to me without an account, so I don't see what's at issue.....

(BTW, I have yet to request an order for something that wound up being the wrong thing....)
