Basic Maintenance tools

Post by csherman »

I'm looking to make a kit of tools to use for basic maintenance for tubas. Things that will help with disassembling and for cleaning. And, I'm open to hear suggestions on how to check piston valve alignment.

Thanks for your help!
There are appropriate times for beauty and crudeness - use both.

Medium rawhide mallet
Small canvas hammer
Appropriately sized screwdrivers
Drum stick with flattened end (for seating rotor bearing plates that may be difficult to strike with mallet/hammer due to placement of surrounding tubing)
Punch (to drive out rotors with stuck stop arms)
Inexpensive endoscope with small enough head to navigate the tubes and long enough cable to be useful--some plug into smartphones
Extra bumper cord (usually 0.250") and razor blade to trim
Mouthpiece shank tool (someone always drops a mouthpiece)
Lubricants of choice
