Getting stubborn lacquer off.

I have a Mira 183 which blows beautifully but the lacquer has gone off and it looks as if it has leprosy. I tried a heavy sisal wheel which does remove it [and lots of brass] 
but this is heavy and slow work. Any really viscious stuff out there nowadays. Historically tubenet has discussed this but the stuff seems not available in little ol' UK.
