Interesting methodology. It will take a few years of playing before the young student realizes how good of a horn he has. Glad there is a bloke who can get him what he needs.

I’d be “happy” if my property tax were that low again... :(

I can’t fathom how you pop those bows off and back on again in a matter of hours. 8)

Just make sure there's a difference between a "nod" and a "shake". You know, like the difference between p and mp dynamics in a tuba section.

They are fine instruments.

My first tuba (that I owned personally) was a 1241 (I'm guessing that's the one with the curly-cue 3rd valve wrap) - I bought it as a junior in High School, on the advice of my teacher Don Butterfield (he actually recommended a 1240, and anyone who knew or studied with him will commiserate), but I wisely overruled that concept.

I owned that horn even before I owned my own car.

I played that horn through 3 years of conservatory (eek, a 4 valve BBb with a detachable bell - times sure have changed). The first piece I confronted as a freshman in the orchestra was the overture to Die Meistersinger (talk about pressure!)

IIRC, I paid $1800 for it, new with two cases, from the factory (I also seem to recall that I waited several months for delivery) - I mowed a LOT of lawns, washed a LOT of cars, and delivered a LOT of newspapers to make it happen, too :tuba:

That's a nice looking horn. It will sound as good as any and better than some. Thanks for the pictures. I have a 1241 and always like to compare. It looks better than mine!
