Is that the buyer's option? $6500 Canadian is only $5500 US.

If you think that $6,500 CAD is a better deal than $5,750 USD, then you should go to your bank and get a money order or what-not drawn up for the $6500 CAD. Yes, your bank will probably pad the currency conversion a little... they don't do stuff like this for free.

I really noticed this when I went to the US to buy a tuba. I figured out how much the USD price should cost in CAD online. I went to the bank and ended up paying an extra $200 CAD or so to the bank to do the conversion. I think the "bank's take" worked out to be somewhere between 2-4%.

I'm sure that percentage varies from bank to bank, and I have no idea how banks work in the US (it's a completely different system than here in Canada). It might also depend on the type of account you have at the bank. You should go to your bank, see what their conversion rates are, and make a decision from there.

I can guarantee you that if you send a cheque for $5750 USD, the seller will not walk away with much (ie $50) more than the $6500 CAD. Also be real careful with credit cards and paypal, their currency conversion rates are just as bad if not worse.
