holton 6/4 BBb w/MW Big Valveset(4 valve) Pics up now.

Post by MikeMason »

I'm offering my Holton for sale. This is a unique horn with a great sound. The body is from a 1969 holton 340(3 valve) which was a school horn for many years. It has had mucho dent work over the years with lots of evidence thereof still remaining. The horn is satin silver(still around 75-80%) with bright silver valveset(100%) Albert at Baltimore Brass put the valves on for me in 2003 or '04.This is a set from a MW 2165 and just had to be braced up and soldered on-great fit.So now,all moving parts except the main tuning slide are around 4 years old and are stainless steel(all vented by Lee Stofer) and the slides are solid nickel silver.I'm a slide puller and always have been on all my horns.I have no trouble playing this horn in tune, but i do pull slides where needed. The horn has a huge sound with alot of character.I've played the horn in a part time pro orchestra for 2 1/2 seasons.Looking for something a little leaner sounding. No case or bag.Not real excited about shipping around the country for trials. Will try to work something out with serious buyers(ie,you've actually got the money :D ).Pics and maybe a sound clip to follow. taking offers.

Pics here, Bloke,my f linkage pics are in here too...

A couple more things. It had the leadpipe replaced at the time of the valveset operation.I don't know what kind.It was silverplated locally(baltimore area) and the silver is wearing off(Albert at BBC might remember if you're interested). It also has a big patch of silver coming off the inside of the bell opposite the engraving. It also has some silver worn off the bottom bow.

Very purdy.

If it were me, this tuba would be more desireable than one with the original valves. The MW valves are probably better than the originals.

Looks like the holton on ebay is getting pretty serious.Whoever loses, take a look at mine.....It DOESN'T need a valve job(or anything else)... :D

In light of recent events on ebay,i'm going to take a day or two to think things over.I don't want to sell this horn too low.Feel free to make offers in the meantime.
