SOLD: Mirafone 180-5U F tuba (again)

Post by thomas850 »

The first post disappeared so let's try this again!

I have a Mirafone 180 5 valve F tuba for sale. The 5th valve is the longer 2-whole-step valve. Included with the horn will be a hard case, Gard gig-bag, and Perantucci PT-64 mouthpiece. Asking price is $2000.

This is a great sounding horn overall. It's a smaller F, but produces plenty of sound. I've used it on the Vaughan Williams; it really sings in the high register and can still belt out the low F and Eb. I've also used it in quartet settings as well as brass choir. It's a very versitile horn.

I am located in Columbus, OH and welcome anyone near by who wants to give it a test run.

Sorry about that delete. It looked like a double post on a quick scan. Now I realize you have 2 different horns for sale.

That's ok. I know they looked pretty similiar. It doesn't help that the horns look a lot alike too.

I think its fair to say that this horn has had extensive dent work, mainly the bell.I still think this is probably a good price for a 5 valve f .This brings a question to mind.I can see how BBb tubas and sousaphones end up with repeatedly crunched and rolled bells, but how do horns that ostensibly would only be used by pros and serious students end up this way?I thought only public school programs dealt out that kind of damage...I still think this could well be a fair price and the dent work really would have little or no effect on the playability of the horn.

There has been some dent work done to the bell. The horn was like this when I bought it and was a big concern of mine at the time but I can tell you that the work which was done was top-notch! It has not affected the playability of the horn at all. The bell does not feel flimsy or thin at all. I wouldn't have thought that damage like that should come from someone who would consider themselves a more serious player, but I guess accidents do happen. Whatever happened to this horn, the work done to correct it was very well done - they just didn't do anything to correct the visible evidence.

As I stated in the previous post, this horn is a great find. It's a smaller F with a great low sound and a very easy touch. Any previous repair has had no ill effect on the horn, unless it played itself beforehand!
