save the $1200; you can get a pretty nice used horn in the $2000-$3000 range.

If it plays in tune, it's probably not too bad for that price. Walter Sear used to import these things years ago. I think that Sam Green used one for years. I'd avoid any that are detachable-bell models, though. When you're play-testing, check how the low B (24) and F# 23 for tuning--there could be some real stinkers.
