Miraphone 184?
Josef Lidl?

Does it absolutely have to be rotary (many 3/4 piston valve models to choose from)?

Does it absolutely have to not be Asian (the Jupiter comes to mind)?

That old Kruspe BBb is still at BBC... and under $2,000 as well.

I have played that Kruspe, and liked it a lot. It has a ton of old horn style, and still plays very well.

That is a F tuba, not a BBb tuba...
There are two Arions on that page. One looks so much like a JB I wonder if cerveny is putting their name on the Chinese horns.
... A copy's copy?? That is very sad.

What about Jupiter tubas?
Jupiter 778/780L are nice instruments...

If you're willing to make an international trip to get one, I can think about selling mine...

By all means try out the Tuba Exchange TE-2111. It's a compact 4/4 BB-flat and I played one at Midwest that was excellent and a great deal of fun to play. List price $2,395. Maybe made in Asia but if the buyer can think past that, it's a fine little horn.

Keep your eyes out for a Meinl Weston 18.

Maybe closer to 4/4 than 3/4, but it's small, sounds great, and is easy to play. Kind of a piggy-shaped tuba.

Also look for the MW under its nickname, the "handy model." Sometimes advertised for sale on the web that way.

Great! I used to play in a community band, where the other tuba player was in his 70s, and he bought an MW-18 because it was smaller and easier to transport. He sounded great on it!

(FWIW, he eventually sold it, and last I heard, he was playing a Fafner. So much for smaller and easier to transport, but he just loved the Fafner, and used the old "you only go around once" justification. :))

I've never seen those kind of spatulas on any horn made anywhere until now. Where else have they appeared?

Be patient and look for Miraphone 282. It is a 3/4 four valve rotary Bb horn. It is larger than most 3/4 horns and it has a great sound.
