FS: MW 6450/2 Baer CC Tuba

Post by mrtuba123 »

For sale is my Meinl Weston handmade Baer 6450/2 CC tuba.

I purchased this tuba used from Dillon's in November of 2012. Previously, it was owned by one of the service bands, although I don't know which one exactly.

This tuba has been with me through my M.M with Warren Deck, during all of my time at Colburn so far, as well as for several summers at the Aspen Music Festival and the Round Top Festival Institute.

This is one of the best examples of a handmade 6450 that I have had the privilege to play. Aside from the 5th partial (E and Eb in the staff) being slightly flat, intonation is extremely reliable across all ranges. Response is quick and precise as well, producing a full, vibrant sound in soft and loud playing.

I have had the 5th slide cut to be able to use alternate fingerings more reliably. This makes low Ab and G as 5-1, and 5-1-2 viable options and tunable with the first valve slide.

It has a PVAK installed and an Altieri gig bag that will both be included.

There are only a few dents on the larger side that I have tried to show in pictures. There are also a few small but sharp dings in the bottom bow that I had a hard time getting to show up on camera. I noticed them after flying with the horn at one point and they look like TSA dropped something down the bell. None of these affect how the horn plays.

All in all, this tuba has served me extremely well, but I have decided to switch to something a little smaller at this point.

I am asking $24,000 and am open to offers, possibly including trades for a Thor plus cash. Feel free to PM me if interested.

The horn is located with me in downtown Los Angeles. I can't ship it for testing, but would happily find a nice space for play testing here at Colburn.

Thanks for looking!

If I already didn't own two 6450's I'd buy this for myself 8)
