FS: Holton 181 Bass Tromobne with Inline Thayers

Postby shinytuba7 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 11:09 am

Hello all,

I have a Holton 181 Bass Trombone with Inline Thayers for sale.

*Drop Price: $1800 Firm*

Specs:
10" Red Brass Bell (Original to Horn)
Straight 0.562" Single Bore Slide (Original to Horn)
Press fit leadpipe, which I assume is the original
Thayers are Original O.E. Thayers before the patent expired
F/Gb/D Tuning
Horn is modular, but not compatible with any current modular systems to my knowledge.

Horn is the early 1980s.
Valves were put on in 1993.

Pictures are located https://www.dropbox.com/sh/od9b6ztapivqzyt/AAAIqfF0JbZQsJCqZlt--d43a?dl=0

Horn comes with an old Getzen Hard Case.

Horn is located in Southeastern Connecticut. I am willing to ship the horn, but please know that this would be at your own risk. It may also take some time for me to get everything together to ship it safely. I am also willing to drive a fair distance to meet up with an interested buyer to avoid shipping.

Payment can be done through cash, bank check, or PayPal.

Please PM or email (rjdusza AT gmail DOT com) with any questions you may have.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

*Edit 10/25 - To answer a question I have been getting a lot, the only reason I am selling is due to the fact that I have a bad shoulder.

*Edit for Price drop, 11/21.

Good luck with your sale - I VERY seriously considered having Thayer valves installed on a Holton TR181 I used to own, but opted instead for the Getzen 3062AFR I now play. This has got to be a really nice horn for someone to pick up at that price.

If I may ask, did you own the horn before the Thayers were installed? If so, how have you liked the response of it since then, below the staff especially? I liked my TR181, but it always felt like there was so much back pressure down there.

Just wondering - thanks.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I have only owned the horn with the Thayers, but I have played other 181's and found them to have a lot of back pressure like you mentioned.
